Chhoti is our youngest and also the most recent addition to the family. She turned up a few months ago, very timid, scared and under-nourished- possibly having run away from somewhere. It took us a few days to even get her to accept a biscuit or two. She would hide under the neighbouring cars, stay away from the other street dogs and was visible only occasionally. Gradually, she has become a ‘regular’. She has her morning food and evening milk. After a couple of fights with the neighbouring dogs- she has taken to coming into the stilt area and stays here, out of harm’s way, for most of the day. She is extremely affectionate and it is heartening to see that she now trusts humans again.
